The power distribution industry is fast moving towards adoption of smart grid technology. It is seen as a major step towards better monitoring of electricity networks including metering infrastructure. However one innate problem remains: monitoring has no benefit without interpretation and without obtaining conclusive information from the data flow.
In a recent article published in Metering International, Rajesh Bansal, shares his experience on the art of extracting information from smart meter data. Rajesh is the Chief Meter Management, BSES Delhi, Reliance Group, India. He has a total 26 years of experience. Since 1994 he has been involved in the field of designing electricity meter with anti-theft features. For the last seven years, he has been working in the field of power distribution, mainly in meter management and theft detection.
Consumer meters are mainly used for billing purposes. But it has a wealth of information. His analytics team has made a complete software to analyse meter data and drive information about:
- Quality of power and installation
- To determine stress on LT network
- To identify area where strengthening is required
This is important in developing countries like India where demand in city of Delhi increases by 8% per annum. Additionally of course his team is extracting information about theft and revenue loss.
If you would like to hear more on interpreting and obtaining conclusive information from data flow, Rajesh will be speaking at Metering, Billing/CRM Asia 2012 In Bangkok this May on the subject matter. Secure your seat today! |
